Why DayStar Portraits? How did you pick this name?
The idea for the name came from a combination of three things that also relate to each other - part of a song, a Bible passage, and the concept of light. I heard a song years ago where one line in it said, "Day Star shine down on me. Let your love shine through me in the night." - and I've never forgotten it to this day. At times, the song will still continue to play in my mind. It calms me and reminds me that all good things are a result of God's blessings, and that it is through us by which He can also bless others too.
And then, this song passage ties to 2 Peter 1:19...
"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts." (KJV)
"So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts." (NASB 1995)
Notice that the older rendering uses "day star" while the newer version uses "morning star". The idea is similar and the point is that Christ, who is that Star (the light, the Word of God), is the one who fills your lamp or life with His abundant and glorious light. He precedes the sun and brings spiritual light and comfort to all who embrace Him. It is only He who has eternal life and true light to offer and bless mankind with.
Which brings me to the third part... Light. Photography is all about light. Too little, and you have a dark and less detailed image. But if you have too much, then all the vibrant and beautiful colors can be washed out. And since Jesus is Light and is the Light that "shineth in a dark place", I thought it was appropriate to incorporate Him into the company name as a way to honor Him - recognizing that it is only by His Light and the light He blesses us with in photography that this is even possible.
And so DayStar Portraits was born... May He receive all the glory and may you also be blessed in His Light!!
